Cheremoya Avenue Elementary School Outdoor Learning Center

The Outdoor Learning Center

A Beautiful Place To Learn

The Outdoor Learning Center at Cheremoya is an incredible outdoor learning and play space that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Dedicated in 2016, the area includes a dry creek bed and a collection of native plants in addition to much-needed green space for students to enjoy. A labor of love and joint effort of the Cheremoya Foundation, EnrichLA, community volunteers, and LAUSD, the area is maintained with the skill and knowledgeable care of  Angela Gygi on behalf of The Hollywood Orchard. Angela's expertise, advocacy, and unwavering support have given Cheremoya Avenue Elementary a priceless and irreplaceable gift.

In 2022, the garden became home to a memorial in honor of long-term Cheremoya teacher Mr. Davis. So that his memory would not be forgotten, a tree was planted with the hope that it would provide beauty and comfort at Cheremoya the same way Mr. Davis did during his 20 years of service to the school.

In 2024, The Outdoor Learning Center was designated a Monarch Way Station. During the spring and summer, monarchs can be seen in abundance, flying in and out of the beautiful native gardens.

Since 1915, Cheremoya Elementary has been serving the extended Hollywood community—providing a nurturing environment for students as they begin their academic journey and embark on the pathways of critical thought that will define their future. Located off the 101 freeway and directly below the Hollywood Sign, Cheremoya is the home public school to UTK-5th grade children of the Beachwood Canyon, Bronson Canyon, and The Oaks neighborhoods. We acknowledge that Cheremoya Avenue Elementary School resides on the ancestral lands of the Tongva and the Chumash.
